HISTORY
The history of SMF begins in 1985
In 1985, the IT world still looked like this: E-mails were called letters and cost 50 pfennigs, typing was done on an electric typewriter and telephones were not mobile. It was at this time that three young computer scientists decided to take the step into self-employment.
Diethard Feuerstein founded his own company, today’s SMF GmbH, together with his wife Angela Feuerstein and brother-in-law Walter Müller. Since its foundation, the company has been on the market for more than three decades and will remain in family hands in the future.
Our history
With Henrike Simbach and Wieland Feuerstein, the next generation is already in the starting blocks and will continue to follow the company’s motto: ‘know the existing, master the current and plan for the future’.
The history of SMF is characterised by milestones that show how the first ‘company headquarters’ in the converted attic became a successful IT company.
1985
Founding of Systemberatung Müller & Feuerstein SMF GmbH with a focus on marketing services in the areas of system support, data centre automation and mainframe software development.
1990
Thomas Engels replaces Walter Müller as managing partner.
1995
Restructuring and change of legal form to Systemberatung Müller & Feuerstein SMF KG.
2004
Focus on banking, insurance, retail and the manufacturing industry.
2011
Foundation of the joint venture SMF IT-Partner d.o.o. in Belgrade for the development of the Central and Eastern European business. More than 100 employees work for the company.
2012
SMF and merkarion construct and move into a twin building on PHOENIX West.
2015
SMF celebrates its 30th anniversary and changes its corporate form to SMF GmbH & Co. KG
2019
SMF buys 80% of the shares in the Dortmund software house W3L AG.
2020
Change in SMF Management structure: Diethard Feuerstein retires as Managing Director. Henrike Simbach, Wieland Feuerstein, Christoph Laarmann and Engelbert Turczyk are new members of the Management Board.
2021
SMF buys the remaining shares of the software company W3L AG and integrates the company.

The circle is completed by Thomas Engels and the two children of the founders Henrike Simbach and Wieland Feuerstein.
